Rare Diseases Coordination Council approves achondroplasia management protocol

The Coordination Council for Rare Diseases has approved a national management protocol for achondroplasia, Council member Ivane Chkhaidze announced on Wednesday.

He said, “The German expert applauded protocol pointing out that there is currently no such good, comprehensive, and informed protocol for this disease in the world.”

Chkhaidze also clarified the technical nuances of introducing and using the medication.

“Due to the side effects of the medication, the initial dose will only be administered in the M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital under the supervision of a physician.

The first phase will involve 5-6 children, ages 11, 12, and 13, who will fall under the protocol because they have little time left for the medicine to be effective. The second stage will entail more children,” Chkhaidze added.
