Public Service Development Agency: 728 Russian citizens received Georgian citizenship this year
Among 3,265 Russian citizens who applied for Georgian citizenship this year, 728 received citizenship, the Public Service Development Agency said in a statement.
“Per exception, the Georgian President may grant citizenship to a foreign national with Georgian roots, providing the applicant meets the requirements laid out in the law. A candidate must either live in the occupied territory of Georgia or be internally displaced; alternatively, the candidate could have emigrated due to political opinions or difficult economic and social conditions and now desire to restore a connection with the homeland. 3,265 Russian citizens applied for Georgian citizenship in 2022. Only 728 people with Georgian ancestry and meeting legal requirements received it,” the Public Service Development Agency stated.
