Public identifies oligarchs, but not where opposition predicts, Parliament Speaker says

According to Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, the Venice Commission’s judgment on Ukrainian de-oligarchization legislation is expected to be announced very soon.

Concerning the continuing de-oligarchization efforts, Papuashvili argues that the Georgian legal or non-legal groups have created inaccurate perceptions of the issue. According to Papuashvili, the “public has already identified several oligarchs, but not where the opposition predicted.”

“When misleading perceptions are fostered, especially against one’s own nation, it does not end well. It leads to the dilemma that Georgian legal or non-legal society has found itself in. Almost everyone is looking for an oligarch, and the public has already identified a few, but not at the location that the opposition predicted, “Parliament’s Speaker said.
