Public Defender's Office condemns attacks on Giorgi Gakharia and Zviad Khoridze, calls for investigation

The Public Defender condemns the attacks on Giorgi Gakharia, leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, and journalist Zviad Khoridze and calls on investigative agencies to identify those responsible.

“The Public Defender of Georgia condemns the attacks on Giorgi Gakharia and journalist Zviad Khoridze and calls on investigative agencies to identify those responsible to swiftly and thoroughly conduct all investigative and procedural actions, including obtaining video recordings, interviewing witnesses, and more.

The Public Defender considers immediate response to these incidents significant to prevent attacks on politicians and journalists from being incentivized,” the Ombudsman Office’s statement reads.

It should be noted that Giorgi Gakharia was assaulted in Batumi, as his party’s press office confirmed to the GPB First Channel. MIA probes into the attack on Giorgi Gakharia under Article 126 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violence.
