Public Defender visits Aleko Elisashvili at penitentiary institution 

The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, visited Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia – Lelo coalition, along with other inmates at Penitentiary Institution No. 6, the Public Defender’s Office reported.

During the visit, Ioseliani inspected the conditions of detention, including the institution’s infrastructure, private spaces, and the newly opened woodworking workshop. He also reviewed ongoing programs aimed at the resocialization and rehabilitation of prisoners and met with the administration of the facility.

For context, Aleko Elisashvili was arrested on November 29.  He was charged with attempting to commit a terrorist act at the Tbilisi City Court. The charge presented carries a sentence of 10 to 15 years’ imprisonment.
