Protesters storm occupied Abkhazia's so-called parliament amid political turmoil
Protesters in the occupied region of Abkhazia stormed the so-called parliament building, demanding the resignation of de facto president Aslan Bzhania and rejecting proposed compromises.
The unrest is fueled by growing discontent over a controversial “investment agreement” with Russia, which protesters assert compromises Abkhazia’s national interests.
Reports on Telegram indicate that the de facto presidential administration is drafting a document to withdraw the contentious “investment agreement” from parliamentary consideration.
It has been reported that the so-called parliamentary delegation and the head of the so-called Security Council have returned to the de facto presidential administration to address the escalating crisis.
The rally organizers emphasized that their actions were not intended to confront Russia-Abkhazia relations but to protect Abkhazia’s natural resources.
“We gathered not to challenge our allies but to defend the national interests of Abkhazia,” stated a protest leader.
In the lead-up to the storming, gunfire was reported near the building, resulting in eight individuals sustaining injuries and requiring hospitalization.
