Participants in the protest rally near the Parliament building ignited pyrotechnics on Monday evening. A group of demonstrators launched fireworks into the air while others fired them towards the Parliament building.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that using pyrotechnics towards the Parliament building constitutes an illegal act and encouraged protest organizers and participants to remain within legal boundaries, adding police will respond appropriately and legally to each instance of law violation.

“Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been mobilized to maintain public order in connection with the protest taking place in the vicinity of the legislative body. Protesters have the full opportunity to express their dissent in a peaceful environment. However, some individuals have begun to use pyrotechnics unlawfully, which violates Article 11, Paragraph 2 of the Georgian Law on Assemblies and Demonstrations,” the MIA statement reads.

Protesters gathered on Rustaveli Avenue in the evening under the slogan “The People’s Spring is Coming.” Former President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, addressed the demonstrators during her speech.
