Protesters and police scuffle at Batumi City Assembly

Law enforcers forcedly expelled opposition representatives from the Bureau sitting at Batumi City Assembly (Sakrebulo). The scuffle ensued the opposition dubbing the ongoing bureau session as illegitimate.

According to the opposition representatives, the Georgian Dream attempted to approve the 2022 budget within tomorrow’s agenda. Mirdat Kadamadze, a member of the United National Movement, tore up the order paper and climbed on the table in protest.

The opposition claims the old convocation Sakrebulo had no right to approve the next budget. Sakrebulo Chair Suliko Tebidze argued that the old composition had the legal and lawful right to do so.

“The behaviour of these gentlemen once again confirmed they are a destructive force, a sect of traitors, which thinks about full lockout rather than the development of Batumi,” Suliko Tebidze said.
