Protest march against Transparency of Foreign Influence bill heads to Parliament from Republic Square
A march called ‘For Freedom’ began from Republic Square and headed towards the Parliament in Tbilisi.
The demonstrators are protesting against the proposed draft law on transparency of foreign influence initiated by the ruling Georgian Dream party.
Representatives from non-governmental organizations and opposition political parties are participating in the rally.
“We’ve brought flowers to share with participants of the freedom march, symbolizing our positivity and commitment to the fight for freedom. This march is a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our country’s independence and liberty. It’s essential to convey that our struggle for freedom continues. While challenging, we are determined to emerge victorious,” stated Eka Gigauri, the head of Transparency International – Georgia.
Giorgi Botkoveli, a member of the opposition National Movement party, believes that laws in Georgia should focus on improving citizens’ well-being by providing better income, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
“The government has introduced a draft law, mirroring one proposed by Putin,” added Botkoveli.
