Prosecutor’s Office report: 2025 sees record high in criminal prosecutions over five years
According to the annual report of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia submitted to the Parliament of Georgia, 2025 recorded the highest number of criminal prosecutions initiated in the past five years.
The report provides year-by-year statistics showing that criminal proceedings were launched against 25,086 individuals in 2025, compared to 15,625 in 2020.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the most frequently prosecuted offenses in 2025 were drug-related crimes (Article 260), theft (Article 177), and threats (Article 151). The data also includes regional distribution, with the highest number of offenses recorded in Tbilisi, totaling 8,364 cases.
The agency noted that compared to 2024, the number of prosecutions initiated under Article 260 (drug-related offenses) doubled in 2025, which resulted in this category ranking first in overall criminal prosecution statistics.
The report concludes that property-related crimes, drug offenses, and domestic violence consistently remain the most widespread categories of crime in the country.
