Prosecutor’s Office indicts 16 individuals, one in absentia, in October 4 case

Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office indicted 16 more individuals, among them one in absentia, in the case of the October 4 developments on the fact of an attempt to seize a strategic facility, organization of group violence, and participation in group violence, the Prosecutor’s Office announced at the briefing.

The charge was presented in absentia to Irakli Shaishmelashvili, the former Head of the Operational Planning Unit at the Interior Ministry’s Special Tasks Department.

“The Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the Tbilisi City Court with the motion to use imprisonment as a punitive measure in the case of 15 individuals, while in the case of Mariam Mekantsishvili, it will request her release on bail, taking into account various circumstances,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Forty-eight individuals are indicted in the same case within the ongoing investigation.
