Prosecutor’s Office – Eka Gigauri and Irma Pavliashvili rejected giving important information to investigation
Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia reports that Eka Gigauri, Executive Director of Transparency International – Georgia (TI) and Irma Pavliashvili, Executive Director of Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) refused to provide the investigation with the available to them important information.
Gigauri and Pavliashvili were called for questioning in relation to the statement made by NGOs regarding the production of false ID cards by Public Service Development Agency in favor of Salome Zurabishvili, an independent presidential candidate supported by the ruling Georgian Dream Party ahead of the second round of 2018 presidential elections.
According to Prosecutor’s Office, Gigauri declined to reveal the name of the source of the information due to the person’s security as well as to divulge the venue of a secret meeting and location of installed hidden cameras. Pavliashvili also gave general information.
Prosecutor’s Office explained in the statement that a witness of a non-governmental organization is not exempt from the compulsion to cooperate with the investigation. Only lawyers, church persons, public defender, journalist, etc. are not obliged to disclose the information based on Article 50 of Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia.
