Prosecutor's Office charges suspect with premeditated murder of Kesaria Abramidze
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has brought charges against one individual for the premeditated murder of Kesaria Abramidze, a famous transgender woman model, under aggravating circumstances.
An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed that approximately one week before the murder, Kesaria Abramidze and the accused had a personal disagreement, which led to their separation. On September 18th, at around 15:50, the accused, B.J., purchased an Opinel folding knife from a store on Adam Mickiewicz Street in Tbilisi and decided to meet with Kesaria Abramidze.
According to the accused’s statement, Kesaria Abramidze agreed to meet in exchange for the public release of photographs depicting their relationship on social media. The accused consented to the publication of the photos to facilitate the meeting and carry out his intent. Subsequently, Kesaria Abramidze uploaded the photographs to social media.
The investigation also established that the accused arrived by taxi near Kesaria Abramidze’s residence from the vicinity of Saakadze Square at approximately 19:10. He entered a nearby Nikora store, purchased alcoholic beverages, and arrived at Kesaria Abramidze’s apartment at around 19:27. Following an altercation, motivated by revenge, the accused first struck Kesaria Abramidze with his hand and then inflicted 28 wounds on various parts of her body using the knife purchased earlier that day. As a result of these injuries, Kesaria Abramidze died at the scene.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the accused swiftly departed from Kesaria Abramidze’s apartment via the stairs. He traversed Avtandil Street, then Vepkhistqaosani Street, proceeding to Mirian Mepe Street and subsequently to Parnavaz Mepe Street, where he entered a relative’s apartment. There, he changed only his blood-stained shirt before leaving. He then took a taxi to Didube metro station, travelled by metro to Sarajishvili station, and subsequently headed towards Senaki by taxi. As a result of operational-investigative measures, police officers intercepted B.J. on the road to Samtredia, near Kopitnari Airport, after which law enforcement officers apprehended the accused.
As part of the ongoing criminal investigation, a covert investigative action – “secret audio-video recording” – was conducted with B.J., during which he discussed the details of the crime.
The detainee has been charged under Article 109, subparagraphs “T” and “M” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to premeditated murder based on gender with particular cruelty. This offence carries a sentence of 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment. The Prosecutor’s Office will petition the court within the legally prescribed period for the application of detention as a preventive measure for the accused.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its investigation into this criminal case.
