Prosecution seeks bail for man detained over Telavi hotel altercation

A man detained in connection with an altercation in Kakheti is to be charged under Article 120, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the intentional infliction of minor bodily harm.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the state will request that the court release the suspect on a 5,000 GEL bail as a preventative measure.

The incident in Telavi came to light yesterday, prompting the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to release an official statement detailing the circumstances:

“According to witness testimonies, during a wedding reception at a hotel in Telavi, foreign nationals staying at the premises shouted insults from their room balcony at the wedding guests below and poured water over the sound equipment,” the MIA statement read.

“Following this, the accused physically assaulted a female foreign national. The injured woman was transported to a clinic to receive appropriate medical attention. As a result of operational and investigative measures, the perpetrator has been detained,” the Interior Ministry added.

The court is expected to rule on the terms of the suspect’s pre-trial detention tomorrow.
