Procedural Committee validates signatures for presidential impeachment

The Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules of the Parliament of Georgia has verified and confirmed the authenticity of signatures from 81 MPs regarding the constitutional submission for the impeachment of President Salome Zourabichvili.

“On October 21, 2024, the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules convened to discuss the verification of signatures regarding the constitutional submission for the impeachment of the President. The Committee confirmed the authenticity of 81 signatures from members of Parliament, fulfilling the requirement of at least one-third of the total membership, as stipulated in Article 48 of the Constitution and Article 178 of the Parliament’s Regulations,” stated Irakli Kadagishvili, Chair of the Committee.

Following this verification, the constitutional submission will be forwarded to the Constitutional Court to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Zourabichvili.
