The Parliamentary Procedural and Rules Committee will discuss MP mandate termination to Nika Melia, Chairman of the oppositional United National Movement (UNM) party.
The UNM Chair applied to the parliament to quit his parliamentary authority on July 29, saying he was joining the race for the upcoming local elections that served as a referendum for early parliamentary elections.
“After winning the referendum, the current parliament will dissolve, and Georgia will have a new legitimate parliament,” Melia claimed. Other UNM lawmakers would keep their MP mandates, he added.
The local elections are scheduled for October 2 in Georgia.
