Prime Minister meets UN Secretary-General

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), the Government Administration reported.

The meeting highlighted the longstanding and productive cooperation between Georgia and the UN.

The discussion focused on the challenges facing international peace and security, as well as the particular importance of multilateral partnership in ensuring lasting stability and prosperity.

As noted during the meeting, the fact that peace, security and sustainable development constitute the central theme of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) underscores the particular relevance of these issues.

The meeting also focused on the difficult humanitarian situation and security challenges in Georgia’s occupied territories. The Prime Minister thanked the UN Secretary-General for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and underscored the importance of the UN General Assembly resolution entitled as the Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia.

The Head of Government of Georgia also signed the United Nations Book of Honour (Livre d’or).
