Prime Minister meets new Rector of Kutaisi International University
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, together with Minister of Education, Science and Youth Affairs Giorgi Amilakhvari, met Giorgi Khubua, newly appointed Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU).
The conversation at the meeting revolved around plans for the development of new educational programs at Kutaisi International University.
The Prime Minister wished success to the newly appointed Rector and pledged support on behalf of the government.
Professor Giorgi Khubua, PhD in legal science, has years-long experience in academic work. In different periods, he served as Rector of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University, Director and Research Fellow of the Institute of State and Law at the Academy of Sciences of Georgia. He has authored more than 40 scientific works, including seven monographs and one textbook.
The idea of establishing Kutaisi International University as a philanthropic megaproject was conceived by Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family. As part of its philanthropic pursuits, the international charity foundation CARTU is investing over one billion euros in the development of the university.
Having admitted the first intake of students in the fall of 2020, KIU presently has over 1,200 students. KIU collaborates with the Technical University of Munich (TUM International GmbH and TUM), a leading European school of higher education.
KIU’s Honorary President is Professor Wolfgang Herrmann, former President of the TUM.
