Prime Minister inspects landslide prevention works at Oni entrance

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, visited the entrance to the town of Oni to inspect ongoing landslide prevention works on a secondary national road.

According to the Government Administration, the project involves restoring the landslide-affected zone and constructing a retaining wall essential for the safe operation of the road.

Simultaneously, a temporary tarmac bypass has been constructed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. This alternative route allows locals and visitors to the region to travel without disruption while the main works are underway.

“Crucial works are being carried out on the Oni road section, where rockfalls were presenting a major issue and road rehabilitation was urgently required. The Ministry of Infrastructure ensured the construction of an alternative route in a very short timeframe, which is already being used by the people of Oni, Racha, and visitors to the region. Furthermore, reinforcement of the primary road section continues in parallel. Essential works are taking place to ensure that rockfalls and similar geological hazards are averted in future,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

Upon completion of the landslide mitigation works, the damaged section of the road at the entrance to the town of Oni will be fully restored.
