Priest Tatarashvili: Doctors wait for doctor or group of doctors from abroad to assess Patriarch’s health

Doctors have confirmed that they are waiting for a doctor or a group of doctors from abroad to assess the Patriarch’s health, Teimuraz Tatarashvili, a priest of the Trinity Cathedral, an employee of the Patriarchate told journalists at the Caucasus Medical Center.

According to him, as the doctors say, the Catholicos-Patriarch’s health condition, unfortunately, is not very favorable.

“Healthy prayers are being held continuously, without pause, at specially arranged shrines and icon corners, led by this or that clergyman. About 10-15 minutes ago, medical personnel met with both clergy and lay people. They once again provided the latest information about the current health of His Holiness. They stated that the situation, unfortunately, is not very favorable, although all the medical and human resources at their disposal are involved in this recovery and miraculous improvement. They confirmed in their speech that they are waiting for a very influential and authoritative doctor or group of doctors from abroad to once again assess the current situation with their experience and have their say regarding this situation,” noted Dean Teimuraz Tatarishvili.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II was admitted to the Caucasus Medical Centre in the late hours of the night following a deterioration in his health. Physicians have reported that the Patriarch suffered severe gastric bleeding, for which the necessary procedures were carried out and the haemorrhage brought under control. The Caucasus Medical Centre has confirmed that Ilia II is currently in the critical care department and on mechanical ventilation.
