President's representative in Constitutional Court: Court lacks factual and legal grounds to prove Consitution violation
Maia Kopaleishvili, Salome Zourabichvili’s representative in the Constitutional Court, stated that the court lacks factual and legal grounds to prove the violation of the Constitution by the President.
She underlined the absence of any such situation, both factually and legally.
“The submissions of those who filed the constitutional lawsuit lack substantiation and corroborating evidence,” Kopaleishvili emphasized.
She further stated, “Now, the court’s responsibility is to elucidate the normative content of the relevant constitutional provisions and distinguish subparagraph ‘a’ of the first paragraph of Article 52 from the third paragraph of Article 49.”
Kopaleishvili said that assuming every foreign relationship requires government consent is unfounded since the president, as the head of state, is empowered to represent Georgia in foreign relations according to Article 49, Clause 3.
