MEP Gregorová ‘shocked’ about announcement of impeachment proceedings against Georgian President
MEP Markétka Gregorová says she is “shocked” to hear about the plan to impeach Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili as she sets to speak to EU leaders.
“If Georgian Dream wants candidate status, they should be approving these talks, not fear their outcome,” she tweeted on Friday.
Earlier today, the ruling Georgian Dream Party announced they intend to impeach Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili for “violating the constitution.”
The very decision came after President Zurabishvili had undertaken a series of overseas visits to promote Georgia’s EU candidacy bid, despite being denied permission by the government.
Shocked to hear about the plan to impeach President @Zourabichvili_S – as she sets to speak to EU leaders. She is firmly pro-European. Unfortunately moreso than certain governmental repre. If GD wants candidate status, they should be approving these talks, not fear their outcome.
