President's Parliamentary Secretary says veto not to improve transparency law

“President Salome Zourabichvili will veto the bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence. However, the veto will not give the opportunity to “improve the law,” said President’s Parliamentary Secretary Giorgi Mskhiladze.

According to Mskhiladze, President Zourabichvili is waiting for the Opinion from the Venice Commission, and Georgian society will see what will be written in the veto in two weeks. He rejected the allegations that different organizations are drafting the veto text, stressing the only organization the President’s Administration cooperates with is the Venice Commission.

“It is not essential what will be written in the veto. When the bill was initiated at the bureau, we immediately protested and said that the law would bring negative results to our country. I cannot word the veto precisely, but the protests should continue. This law, in its given form, should not exist. No need to create a Registry. We have a Law on Occupation in Georgia, and no citizen of Georgia has any doubts that Russia is an occupier. Accordingly, the introduction of an additional law is ruled out,” he said.
