President Zourabichvili: It is vital that ECHR ruling in Saakashvili's case causes no reputational damage to Georgia

“The European Court of Human Rights’ decision to reject the urgent transfer of ex-president Saakashvili to another country is vital,” Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said in a statement.

“It is critical this ruling does not harm Georgia’s reputation, particularly at a time when Georgia’s candidacy is debated. At the same time, it is critical to protect his right to life and health in the future,” Zourabichvili states.

Georgian Justice Minister announced today that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected Mikheil Saakashvili’s lawyers’ appeal and did not oblige the state to transfer the jailed ex-President for treatment.
