“On March 31, 1991, the Georgian people loudly declared to the world that Georgia chooses independence and freedom,” wrote Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili in his Facebook post.

According to the President, the Georgian people should nurture this precious heritage, strengthen sovereignty, and continue moving forward to build a stronger, more worthy, and more united Georgia, where only the Georgian people decide their future.

“Our history rarely remembers such unity of the nation and a society united around common values. The results of the referendum on the restoration of independence have become a solid legal foundation of sovereign Georgia, on which we have been building our statehood for 35 years.

“We should nurture this greatest achievement, for which our ancestors fought for generations. We should protect this precious heritage, which defines our present, strengthen sovereignty, and continue moving forward to build a stronger, worthy, and united Georgia where only the Georgian people decide their future,” he said.
