German Parliament President to visit Tbilisi

Bärbel Bas, the President of the German Parliament, will visit Tbilisi today at the invitation of Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the German Embassy in Georgia, Bärbel Bas will hold meetings with Shalva Papuashvili, President Salome Zourabichvili, and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

The visit aims to further deepen the close cooperation between Germany and Georgia. Discussions will focus on Georgia’s application to join the European Union and the steps required to achieve this goal.

Additionally, the talks will address the situation in Georgia and the wider South Caucasus region in light of Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine.

The President of the Bundestag will visit the administrative border line (ABL) with South Ossetia and receive a briefing from the EU monitoring mission. The visit will conclude on July 12.
