President Kavelashvili: On October 26, society chose peace, development and protection of faith

“The October 26 elections were a clear confirmation of where the Georgian people stand, what they protect, and what Georgia means to them,” President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili stated during his annual address to Parliament.

As Kavelashvili noted, the country’s hostile forces will have to respect the majority’s choice.

“On this day, Georgian society chose peace and development, protection of traditions, values, faith, family, and dignity; they rejected pseudo-liberal ideology that threatens our identity and uniqueness. Whether Georgia’s hostile forces inside and outside the country like it or not, they will have to accept and respect the choice of the Georgian people’s majority,” Mikheil Kavelashvili stated.

“Our state had to walk on a knife’s edge, withstand numerous pressures, and act firmly, solely protecting national interests, which ultimately gave us the opportunity to maintain peace and save the country from unconditional destruction,” President Kavelashvili stated.

According to Kavelashvili, the threat will remain high until the war in Ukraine ends and groups promoting foreign interests in the country are weakened.

“Our country, over recent years, especially after the start of the war in Ukraine, has repeatedly become a target of unjust attacks. Our state had to walk on a knife’s edge, withstand numerous pressures, and act firmly, solely protecting national interests, which ultimately gave us the opportunity to maintain peace and save the country from unconditional destruction.

It’s important to understand that the threat of our country’s destruction hasn’t disappeared yet. Anti-Georgian forces still remain and spare no effort to destabilize Georgia. The threat will remain high until the war in Ukraine ends and groups promoting foreign interests in Georgia are further weakened,” Kavelashvili stated.

“We all need to clearly understand the special value of peace; without it, it’s impossible to talk about any kind of development and success,” Mikheil Kavelashvili added.

The President also stressed that the country’s economic growth continues successfully. This would not be possible without ensuring peace and stability.

“The unity of state and people, the government’s prudent policy, alongside saving the country, made it possible for our economy to grow by an average of 10% over the last three years and for strategic projects to be implemented. As a result of all this, the country’s budget has increased, along with tourism revenues, public servants’ salaries, pensions, and funding for almost all important sectors.

It’s significant that we achieved all this against the backdrop of ongoing wars, crises, and economic problems in the world. Our country’s economic growth continues successfully. We hold leading positions in this direction. Numerous important infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening our country are being implemented.

Georgia is becoming increasingly attractive to investors yearly. Without ensuring peace and stability, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this. We all need to understand well the special value of peace – without it, it’s impossible to talk about any kind of development and success,” the President of Georgia stated.

“I believe we will soon be able to heal the wounds of war together with our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters and continue happy coexistence in a united, strong, and prosperous Georgia,” Kavelashvili stressed.

According to the President, there is no alternative to peace policy, economic success, and prosperity.

“Each of us should be well aware that peace policy, economic success, and a high level of prosperity are the important factors that particularly bring us closer to our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters. This is a path that has no alternative,” the President stated.

The country’s President further stressed the role that the Georgian people played in saving the country.

“Over the last several years, our state has firmly responded to numerous attempts at war involvement, destabilization, and revolution. We can call these years the period of Georgia’s salvation, which, unfortunately, is not over yet,” Mikheil Kavelashvili said.

He continued: “It should be emphasized that the Georgian people played the main role in saving the country, setting aside emotions at every critical moment and making decisions with special caution, wisdom, and patriotism; they stood by the state and helped us avoid Georgia’s destruction. This is precisely why the will of the Georgian people, our statehood, and national values are the main targets of Georgia’s ill-wishers, as they know that our country’s strength stands on these foundations.”

President Kavelashvili underscored the importance of prioritizing national interests in the pursuit of peace. He emphasized that the Georgian people have come to genuinely understand the significance of caring for and being accountable for their country, highlighting the need for citizens to protect and cherish their share of Georgia.

“Understanding these processes convinces us that caring for the homeland, protecting it requires a constant, continuous process from Georgian society, which must absolutely continue. I am convinced that we have a period of greater ascent, strengthening, and unification ahead. To achieve this goal, we still need the unity of state and Georgian people that save our country from destruction,” the President stated.
