President Kavelashvili: National Security provides ground for state sovereignty, peace, development

“National Security provides the ground for state sovereignty, peace and development,” said President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, addressing the ceremonial event dedicated to the 11th anniversary of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG).

According to the President, in the modern world, national security is a wider concept since besides traditional challenges, it comprises hybrid threats, information war, cyber attacks and psychological pressure that aim to divide society and weaken the state.

President Kavelashvili remarked in his address that under such conditions, great significance is attached to the State Security Service’s effective operation since security is directly linked to constitutional order, internal stability and public trust.

The President highlighted the role of the State Security Service in combating transnational crime, terrorism, and corruption, as well as in preventing attempts to destabilize the country and stage a coup d’état.

At the end of the Address, the President commemorated SSSG officials who sacrificed their lives in defending the country’s peace and security, and commended SSSG officers for their professionalism and dedication in the service of the country.
