President Kavelashvili meets delegation of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili met with the delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO).

According to the Presidential Administration, President Kavelashvili reiterated his gratitude to the delegation members for their unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the meeting, the significance of the Assembly’s activities was emphasized. It was noted that it focuses on protecting Christian values, supporting social justice and democratic processes in the face of global, economic, and social crises.

Mikheil Kavelashvili stressed that Orthodoxy is not just a religion for Georgia but an indispensable part of cultural identity, traditions and historical memory.

Kavelashvili said that “in a rapidly changing world, our nations protect their national interests and sovereignty by standing on this solid foundation.”

He spoke about the merit of the late Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II and thanked the delegation members for their sincere condolences and sympathy.

The Parliament of Georgia hosted the spring session of the International Secretariat of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO).

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili addressed the session participants in a welcoming speech.

Representatives from 11 countries – Georgia, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Jordan, North Macedonia, Romania and Serbia participated in the session.
