The Constitutional Court is an institutional guarantee that ensures public stability and keeps political processes within the constitutional framework, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili said.

He made the remarks while addressing an event marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Georgia’s Constitutional Court.

“Today, we have gathered to mark a very important occasion – 30 years have passed since the establishment of Georgia’s Constitutional Court.

Over the past three decades, our country has gone through a difficult and challenging period, but one also marked by profound state transformation. Following the restoration of independence, building a new democratic and legal system became a vital task for Georgia. From its very first days, the Constitutional Court took shape as an institution responsible for ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution, equality before the law and the protection of fundamental human rights in our state,” Kavelashvili said.

He noted that, historically, Georgian statehood and political thought had always been based on the principles of justice and legality.

“For centuries, our ancestors created legal documents that preserved the spiritual, moral and political unity of the nation even during the most difficult periods in its history. Constitutional review is the modern continuation of this centuries-old tradition – a fundamental pillar of a state governed by the rule of law that ensures a balance among the branches of government, protects individual freedom and strictly defines the limits of state power.

Today, we are living in an extremely complex transitional era. The international security architecture is being disrupted, international law and norms have lost their effectiveness, and global geopolitical challenges are directly affecting the domestic affairs of every country. Against this backdrop, the rule of law and fair and independent justice are the solid foundations of state resilience and public trust.

One of the principal pillars of our national security and sovereignty is strong institutions. The Constitutional Court is an institutional guarantee that ensures public stability and keeps political processes within the constitutional framework.

The modern technological era presents us with entirely new challenges, giving rise to complex legal issues that did not exist three decades ago. However, the mission of the Constitutional Court remains unchanged: to protect the Constitution and human dignity and to maintain the balance among state institutions.

Constitutional order is an invisible protective barrier that shields us not only from domestic but also from external crises and enables us to face any national or global challenge with dignity.

Once again, I congratulate you on this anniversary. May the Constitution of Georgia always remain the unshakable foundation of our sovereign statehood, and may the Constitutional Court be its fair and trusted guardian. May God bless Georgia!” Kavelashvili said.
