President: Investigation body should have uncovered evidence itself. I advice prosecutor's office to do its job

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili held a press point on Wednesday after prosecutors summoned her to testify regarding her allegations of election misconduct.

Zourabichvili says it’s not her responsibility to prove alleged election fraud. “There are the footages which says everything and in any normal country, the investigative body will obtain evidence itself, instead of requesting it from the President.”

“Citizens, observation missions, and non-governmental organizations are involved in the collection of evidence, a huge amount of material already exists,” the President continued, stressing that “The investigative body and Prosecutor’s office must open the probe.”

Zourabichvili also mentioned irregularities faced by the diaspora. “They were directly restricted from using their constitutional right in the elections.”

“I appeal to the prosecutor’s office, you are accountable to the people, the public demands from you an immediate investigation, not my evidence, and no one expects the prosecutor’s office today to start political processes against the president, which, by the way, I don’t know how to call it, strangely coincides with Medvedev’s instructions,” she declared.

According to the President, over 1,100 complaints regarding the annulment of election results have been submitted to the Central Election Commission. “It immediately affects 246 precincts, which at this point represent almost 400,000 voters. This might have a significant impact on the findings. The violation of vote secrecy also may result in the invalidation of 2,263 precinct results.”

She instructed the Prosecutor’s Office to “do its job.”

Zourabichvili addressed society: “I received a lot of messages. I am not afraid, and you should not be afraid either. Everything will be calm and peaceful, and the true results of these elections should be established.”
