The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, paid tribute to the memory of those who died in the April 9, 1989 tragedy by laying flowers at the memorial.

He was accompanied at the April 9 Memorial by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and other representatives of the executive and legislative branches of the government.
