President emphasizes need to avoid past mistakes in future elections during meeting with observers
President Salome Zourabichvili met with election observation organizations to express her gratitude and solidarity for their efforts during the recent elections.
During the event, held at the Pullman Tbilisi Axis Towers, Zourabichvili acknowledged various shortcomings and urged that lessons be learned to prevent similar issues in the future.
“We failed to anticipate many factors and perhaps fell into a state of overconfidence. This must not happen again,” the President stated.
She pointed out that fundamental principles had been violated during the elections, rendering the process unacceptable.
“I thank you for your dedication and for standing on the front lines of this unjust battle to protect our votes. The evidence you gathered, both written and unwritten, is of immense significance. Your firsthand experiences will serve as vital testimony, not only now but also in future elections. This process, as flawed as it was, has equipped you to safeguard our votes more effectively next time,” she added.
The meeting included representatives from the Coalition My Vote, the Young Lawyers’ Association, and ISFED.
Nino Dolidze, Executive Director of ISFED, noted that the gathering provided an opportunity for observers to share their personal experiences and insights from the recent elections.
