President calls for unified celebration of Olympians and Paralympians
The Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili congratulates the Georgian Olympians and addresses the event planned for this evening.
President believes that the awards for Georgian Olympians should not be hastily given out. During today’s briefing, Zourabichvili explained that the successes of the Olympians should be celebrated collectively, and she plans to organize a public celebration for this purpose.
Additionally, Zourabichvili noted that the Paralympic Games will soon begin and will continue until September 8, so the reception for all athletes will be held together.
“I have two important reasons why the awards cannot be given out hastily today. Firstly, this is a significant matter that should not be rushed. Additionally, I believe this event unites the country and society, and we should celebrate it together, not in a closed space. It should be a public celebration, as I previously announced.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the Paralympics are starting now and will continue until September 8. It seems that some, including the Minister of Sports or the government as a whole, have forgotten this. How can we celebrate the return of our Olympians separately – those who participated in the main Olympic Games and those in the Paralympics? This discrimination is unacceptable. We will welcome everyone together—Olympians, Paralympians, the entire nation, and society. We look forward to seeing you in September,” said the President.
