Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said on Friday the European Council’s decision to grant Georgia EU candidate country status was “a very important step towards Europe.”
“I congratulate all of Georgia, the people standing here, whoever they are, whatever side they stand on other political issues, I congratulate the people in the regions, our citizens in Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the President noted.
Zourabichvili added “Today we show that we were and are worthy of yesterday’s decision. The whole of Georgia is watching how we celebrate together, this should be a message of this day.”
The citizens gathered in downtown Tbilisi to celebrate the nation’s EU candidate status.
