President attends sermon at Sioni Cathedral

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili attended a sermon delivered on the occasion of late Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II’s memory, and the anniversary of the Day of Restoration of Autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church at Sioni Cathedral.

The sermon was also attended by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and representatives of legislative and executive authorities.

The President, PM and members of the parliament laid wreaths at the Patriarch’s grave and paid tribute to his memory.

Shio Mujiri, Mitropolitan and Bishop of Senaki and Chkhorotsku and locum tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, delivered a memorial sermon at Sioni Cathedral on March 25 in connection with the ninth day from the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II and the anniversary of the Day of restoration of autocephaly by the Georgian Orthodox Church.
