Police arrest suspect over large-scale fraud
Officers of the Anti-Fraud Division and the Main Detective Division of the Tbilisi Police Department under Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested a man on charges of fraud involving a large sum of money, the ministry said.
According to the investigation, the suspect promised the victim that he would renovate the grave of the victim’s deceased spouse. The ministry said the suspect allegedly obtained GEL 10,300 from the victim with the intention of unlawfully appropriating the money but failed to carry out the promised work.
Law enforcement officers arrested the man as a defendant on the basis of a court warrant following operational measures and investigative actions.
The investigation is being conducted under Part 3 of Article 180 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of up to nine years in prison.
