Police arrest suspect in assault on Onise Okriashvili

Officers of the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department have arrested one person on charges of violence, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said.

According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly physically assaulted Onise Okriashvili in Tbilisi on July 22 before fleeing the scene.

The ministry said that shortly after the incident, an individual voluntarily appeared at the Vake-Saburtalo police division, where officers arrested the person as a suspect.

The investigation is underway under Article 126 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, and investigative actions are ongoing.

A video of the assault on Okriashvili has circulated on social media. According to available information, the incident is linked to remarks Okriashvili made about Georgian writer Nodar Dumbadze.
