Police arrest human trafficker in Batumi

Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has arrested one person convicted of human trafficking.

The investigation revealed that the accused orchestrated a human trafficking scheme, pressuring and threatening his wife to collect alms in Batumi.

Additionally, the detainee deceived a disabled person from Tbilisi, taking him/her to Kutaisi, where he/she was forced to beg on various streets and highways. The accused claimed full ownership of the ill-gotten money.

The investigation falls under the second and third parts of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, addressing human trafficking between two or more persons. The crime carries a penalty of 12 to 15 years of imprisonment.
