PM: Zhiuli Shartava is an example of heroism and self-sacrifice

“Zhiuli Shartava is an example of heroism and self-sacrifice for each of us and future generations,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on the occasion of the National Hero’s birth date.

“Georgia’s national hero Zhiuli Shartava would have turned 80 today. Zhiuli Shartava is an example of heroism and self-sacrifice for each of us and future generations. He sacrificed his life and became a symbol of the dignity of a Georgian man. I am confident that history will never forget his heroism,” he said.

Zhiuli Shartava was a Georgian politician who served as the Government Head of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and was killed by Abkhaz militants in 1993. Shartava was awarded the title of the National Hero of Georgia in 2004.
