PM: Transparency Law has nothing to do with Russian law

“We have introduced the Transparency Law, and the content of this law has nothing to do with the content of the Russian law about NGOs, it’s only about transparency,”  said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in an interview with Euronews.

According to the PM, the Georgian government adopted the Transparency Law and the Law on Family Values and Protection of Minors, and these are “national decisions.”

“These are the decisions made by the Georgian government. And these decisions have nothing to do with the decisions made by the Russian government.

We have introduced the Transparency Law, and the content of this law has nothing to do with the content of the Russian law about NGOs, it’s only about transparency.

The other thing which is envisaged by this law is to ensure that the NGOs are publicising their annual financial declarations to the Minister of Justice, and that’s it.

There are no restrictions. That’s why this messaging about the Russian law was completely fake. And the laws about LGBTI, that’s also our national decision,” he said.

Euronews will broadcast the in-depth interview with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at 11 p.m. Tbilisi time.
