PM: Trade turnover between Georgia and China amounted to USD 600 million, over 48 thousand tourists visited Georgia last year
“For us, strategic partnership with China is paramount. We have signed a strategic partnership agreement with China and have tangible results in different directions,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, delivering an annual report to the parliament.
According to the PM, the trade turnover between Georgia and China amounted to USD 600 million, and over 48 thousand tourists visited Georgia last year, making it 6.5 times higher than in 2022.
“I want to thank the Chinese side for enforcing a visa-free travel regime for Georgian citizens. Direct flights doubled and economic ties intensified. The trade turnover between Georgia and China amounted to USD 600 million, and over 48 thousand tourists visited Georgia last year, making it 6.5 times higher than in 2022. We have an increase in tourism. Chinese companies are involved in many significant projects. In the reporting period, after I took the Prime Minister’s post, we opened two large projects, the Zertaphoni bypass road and the Kobi-Kvesheti Tunnel. Both projects were implemented with the successful engagement of Chinese companies. Cooperation will continue.
I mentioned the Anaklia Port project, where the involvement of the Chinese side is crucial, including the attraction of Chinese cargo, to ensure the development of our connectivity function as much as possible, and we are glad that this project will be implemented with the involvement of a Chinese company,” he said.
