Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will attend events in Budapest marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar.

According to the Georgian Government Administration, the main anniversary event will take place on October 23 in a central square in the Hungarian capital, where Magyar will address attendees.

“Freedom, which Central Europe finally regained in 1989, did not begin in 1989. Part of its history was written 33 years earlier, in the streets of Budapest. It is my honor to invite you to Budapest so that we can jointly mark the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

Your presence at the event, where we will pay tribute to those whose courage continues to inspire us in our shared European future and whose legacy still speaks to the challenges of our time, would be a great honor for us,” Magyar wrote in the official invitation letter received by the Georgian PM.
