PM says history was made yesterday

“We have a special and emotional day today and an extraordinary sitting, respectively,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

The PM opened the government meeting by congratulating Georgians on the victory in a historic match against Greece, which won a ticket for the Georgia national football team to the 2024 UEFA Euro this summer in Germany.

“We can proudly say that certainly history was made yesterday. The history of our national team began 30 years ago, and 30 years on, for the first time, we have qualified for the European Championships. Expressing the happiness and pride that united the entire country is impossible through words,” he said.

Irakli Kobakhidze extended his gratitude to the football players, the head coach of the national team, Willy Sagnol, the Georgian Football Federation, and each football fancier.

“The success we finally achieved yesterday has been built for years. I want to congratulate the veteran football players on this historic victory. They created this victory for decades. I congratulate the veteran heroes of May 13. I want to congratulate the players of all generations of the team. The contribution of each of them is special. They and our fellows brought this victory yesterday,” he said.

On March 26, Georgia’s national football team won a ticket to the 2024 UEFA Euro this summer in Germany by beating Greece with a score of 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Georgia will debut at the European Championship with its first match scheduled against Turkey on July 18 in Dortmund.
