“Our path is only toward the European Union and EU membership is Georgia’s chief foreign policy priority,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze delivering a speech on the occasion of Europe Day.
According to the PM, the government wishes to reach the EU development level and a similar quality of prosperity.
“Today we celebrate an important date, Europe Day. The European Union was formed on May 9, 1950, with the signing of the historic ‘Schuman Declaration’ that marked the beginning of a gold era of Europe’s development that lasted for 60 years. Starting at this moment, Europe has introduced irreversible values such as the supremacy of law, democracy, human rights, social state and uninterrupted peace in Europe that created solid guarantees for the increase of prosperity quality in the UE and Europe.
I remember my 3 years spent in the heart of Europe, in Dusseldorf, my first impressions by getting familiarized with European culture and welfare. The Georgian government wishes to reach the EU development level and a similar quality of prosperity.
Therefore, it is natural that our path is only toward the European Union and EU membership is Georgia’s chief foreign policy priority.
I am convinced that the economic or value problems facing the European Union today are temporary, and it is our responsibility to the great European figures that each one of us contributes to the revival of the European Union,” he said mentioning Robert Schuman, Jean Monnet, Konrad Adenauer, Winston Churchill and others. “We should act with this responsibility,” he concluded.
