PM says EU Commissioner's warning about terrorist act could mean GD Founder

“The information of the State Security Service is disturbing, concerning a terrorist act. Some individuals dislike the standpoint of the Georgian government about the war. In these conditions, there are threats,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the briefing echoing the statement of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG).

According to the PM, the government will do its best to prevent such acts. Irakli Kobakhidze reminded society of terrorist acts in Slovakia and the US organized by “global political forces”  and “actual threats in Georgia.”

Kobakhidze recalled the telephone conversation with the EU Commissioner, who “later admitted that he warned about a terrorist act.”

“He warned me about a terrorist act, simply saying that there would be polarization on the part of those who fired. Polarization does not shoot, only killers shoot. The Commissioner was used as a messenger to deliver the information to us. Of course, all this is perturbing.

Some individuals do not like our standpoint about the war. In these conditions, there are threats. It is not surprising that the investigation traced the role of former high-ranking officials, who are currently in Ukraine. This is utmost disturbing and the government does its best to prevent such acts,” he said.

The Prime Minister remarked that the addressee could have been Bidzina Ivanishvili since he is the guarantor of peace and development in the country.

“You all know that Bidzina Ivanishvili is the leader of our ruling party. He is the Honorable Chair of the political union. Besides you know his role in Georgian politics and influence on political processes. Therefore, the addressee of the terrorist act could have been Bidzina Ivanishvili.

I would like to stress that when the EU Commissioner warned about a terrorist act, he did not speak about a particular politician. It was a warning in general and the addressee could be anyone from the Georgian government, not particularly a warning directed at me.

First of all, when speaking about ill-wishers of our country, the addressee for them is Bidzina Ivanishvili, because Bidzina Ivanishvili is the guarantor of peace and development in this country,” he said.

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) said in its statement that it probes into criminal activities, including plotting the murder of Bidzina Ivanishvili (Founder and Honorable Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party) organized and financed by former high-ranking officials of the Georgian government currently being in Ukraine.
