PM: Rustavi Art Pavilion to unite cultural traditions and new creative energy
“Today is a special day for Rustavi. Together, we are opening a space that will bring together the city’s cultural traditions and new creative energy,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in his address at the opening of the Rustavi Art Pavilion.
Kobakhidze highlighted the importance of the project, which cost more than GEL 11 million and preserved the building’s historic appearance.
“This building is as old as the city of Rustavi itself. When Rustavi was granted city status in 1948, the House of Culture was built here. The first performances were staged here and the first concerts were held here. Prominent figures of Georgian art, including Medea Japaridze and Hamlet Gonashvili, performed on this stage.
The legendary Rustavi ensemble and the Bermukha group also began their creative journeys here. After remaining unused for years, this building is being given new life today.
The project was initiated by Rustavi Mayor Nino Latsabidze and implemented with the support of the Regional Development Fund. It is a project worth more than GEL 11 million that has been successfully completed. Most importantly, the building has fully preserved its historic appearance, while its functions and technological equipment have been brought up to completely new, modern standards,” Kobakhidze said.
According to the prime minister, the Rustavi Art Pavilion features a hall equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics and lighting, rehearsal spaces, a recording studio and an open-air amphitheater.
“It is particularly symbolic that the Rustavi ensemble is returning here, while the Tutarch’ela ensemble will also be based here. A musical theater academy will open, and educational programs for young people will be launched.
I am confident that the Art Pavilion will once again become a focal point for Rustavi residents and visitors to the city — a place that will connect tradition and modernity, classical art and the creative energy of young people.
I thank everyone who contributed to the implementation of this project. I wish this space and each of you every success,” Kobakhidze said.
