PM optimistic about EC's decision

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said he was optimistic about the decision of the European Commission on Georgia’s EU candidate status “based on the impressions” of the meetings, which he has recently held in Brussels.

According to the PM, Georgia deserves candidate status.

“During the visit, I told our friends about the government-taken steps. The full report is submitted to the European Commission. I believe we should wait for the decision calmly. I told them that the current situation in Europe, the world, and the devastating war in Ukraine completely changed the agenda. Diverging Georgia would be a strategic mistake of the West, and this is in the interests of neither the West nor Georgia,” Garibashvili stated.

Also, as the PM remarked, candidate status would end polarization in Georgia.

“If the country receives the status, it will halve the polarization. Let’s wait for the report. It won’t be public, but the information will probably become available. I am quite optimistic,” Irakli Garibashvili said.
