PM on CoE resolution: Landmark victories at The Hague and Strasbourg prove government’s steadfast defence of national interests

“Messages of this nature directly reflect the fact that our government has rigorously safeguarded, and continues to safeguard, Georgia’s fundamental national interests,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists in Batumi, responding to the recent resolution adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The head of government emphasised that the ongoing occupation remains one of the country’s most formidable national challenges, requiring unwavering policy consistency and firm adherence to diplomatic red lines.

“Declarations of this calibre carry immense weight. This government remains fully committed to defending our national interest to the absolute maximum. We have won two landmark legal battles before international tribunals, at The Hague and Strasbourg.

Such international endorsements directly echo the government’s rigorous and successful defence of our sovereign rights. The occupation remains one of our foremost national challenges; overcoming it demands complete clarity of purpose, a principled policy stance, and uncompromising red lines. The government will continue to uphold this standard without wavering,” Kobakhidze affirmed.

According to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers reaffirmed its unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while renewing its explicit call on the Russian Federation to fulfil its international legal obligations.
