PM meets UN Tourism Secretary-General

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, who is in Georgia on an official visit, the Government Administration said.

According to the administration, the meeting focused on prospects for further deepening relations between Georgia and UN Tourism. The sides highlighted the close and productive cooperation established over the years.

“The Prime Minister expressed hope that the Secretary-General’s visit to Georgia will contribute to the further development of the partnership and the successful implementation of shared priorities, given UN Tourism’s important role in supporting sustainable tourism development worldwide.

Particular attention was paid to positive trends in the development of Georgia’s tourism sector, the growing number of international visitors, and the significant contribution of tourism to the country’s economy.

As the UN Tourism Secretary-General noted, Georgia has achieved significant success in the tourism sector, which is also confirmed by the figures. Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais emphasized Georgia’s role in terms of connectivity and noted that the country serves as an excellent example for others in this regard.

The importance of promoting Georgia on global markets was also discussed. It was noted that active international partnerships would help position Georgia on the global market as an attractive and safe tourist destination.
